Another higher end brand with some of the best products on the market is Make Up For Ever. I love their foundation sticks that I use for contour, but I have yet to try their eye pencils. Here we have Make Up For Ever’s kohl pencil eyeliner in matte white. This reasonably priced pencil is a very straight forward, no frills pencil in that it delivers an exceptionally smooth texture that can be used to achieve diverse looks, from dramatic to subtle.
Like I mentioned about its no frills, straightforward approach, this pencil glides on smooth and delivers a highly pigmented payoff which is sure to pop on the waterline. The pencil is great for building intensity as you control how much or how little you want, even though there is a strong pigmented payoff upon easy application of the pencil product. This pencil is especially for great for individuals who have sensitive or thin skin surrounding and inside the eye.
Its listed ingredients include a plethora of amazing moisturizers, including a “gentle blend of vegetable lipids”, as well as vitamin E, mango seed oil, hydrogenated cottonseed oil, and jojoba oil to keep the skin around the eyes hydrated. For all of its lowkey features this product definitely packs a punch when it comes to application, pigment, lasting power, and hydrating ingredients.

I’m excited to get to this product, Mac’s Chromagraphic Pencil in “Pure White”. MAC always has top of the line industry standard cosmetics and their Chromagraphic Pencil in “Pure White” stands out among the rest. Described as being a pigment-rich pencil that is ideal as a liner or to outline and define. The creamy soft-point pencil provides a bold, intensely smooth application with a well-defined pigment rich line.
The pencil boasts being long lasting, water-resistant, safe for contact lens wearers, and dermatologist and ophthalmologist tested. This pencil is the perfect eye-widening white waterline pencil. This product is also great for dramatic looks and can even be used in body paint or graphic applications like special FX makeup. The highly pigmented color can be used to outline creases in shadows or make a dramatic white cat-eye.
The pencil itself is ultra creamy and smooth and glides on easily and fantastically, with no gunky buildup. The price point is obviously higher getting into the double-digit range, but given its versatility and strength as a liner this is a must for any professional or amateur makeup artist and well worth the price. Love this pencil for its dramatic pigmentation and easy to use application and long-lasting properties. Definitely a go-to as far as white liners are concerned.

With NYX’s full line of affordable cosmetics, their retractable eyeliner pencil would be one of my top picks! These pencils are labeled as waterproof so that’s priority number one we’re looking for in a waterline friendly pencil.
The formula is meant to be long lasting and has a creamy texture and boasts additional moisturizing properties. The pencil itself is highly pigmented and the white color really popped after doing a couple skin swatches.
One of the things I liked most about this pencil in particular is the fact that it’s a build able product. That allows me to go for a subtle or more dramatic effect.
One of the downsides I noticed about this product is that the colors can tend to be a little flaky which is definitely something you don’t want to see in your waterline as it can appear gunky. But fear not!
This can be easily fixed with another swipe over which smoothed out the gunkiness. Another great feature about this liner is its smudge proof abilities, which would prevent bleeding of the white pigment into any shadow or darker liner on the lash line.
All in all NYX comes through again with affordable but pro-quality makeup. Definitely affordable and a great product!

Next we have Too Faced Cosmetics’ Bulletproof 24-Hour Eyeliner in “White Lie”. Let’s get to the pros of this product right away. This product is VERY long lasting. After seeing reviews and researching about it online, I was skeptical about its long lasting properties as it looked more sheer and and super pigmented online.
However I went into my local Sephora to swatch this product and swatched it on my hand I continued to shop around and noticed that the swatch didn’t budge at all! I was pleasantly surprised. Another thing I liked about this product is that it can double as a shadow. The product is dual-tipped with a smudge tool to create a more diffused look. Personally I love both using it on my waterline and on my lid as it has shimmer in the pigment which kinda gives this soft more ethereal finish. I also liked that this was a fatter pencil which opens it up to be used as a liner and quicker to apply on the lid.
A cool hidden feature on this product you’ll notice is that the smudge tip applicator can be popped out to reveal a sharpener for the pencil tip to create more precise lines. On Too Faced’s website it says the color locks down in 60 seconds and from there doesn’t smudge or budge, which is highly accurate, this liner is staying put all day! The price point is a little step up from the NYX pencil but not ridiculously overpriced for a brand like Too Faced.

Another fan fave in the land of affordable cosmetics is the Wet n Wild color icon kohl liner in “You’re Always White!”. I’m assuming that is a play on words on “you’re always right”, but not my most favorite shade name by a makeup brand. Nevertheless, on to the review!
I love Wet n Wild cosmetics, they always have been on trend with their collections and for the price, you literally can’t beat it. This extended wear liner is literally so cheap you can buy one for the price of a burger on the value menu. When I say extended wear as opposed to long-lasting like previous products, their kohl liner promises 12 hours of smudge proof wear that is highly pigmented with a creamy application.
Now I know 12 hours is still a long time, and most people won’t be wearing a liner for 24 hours, but compared to other products, a lot can happen in under 12 hours to degrade a makeup application, as heat and water seem to be an enemy of this particular product. One of the things I noticed about this product is that it doesn’t seem to be as highly pigmented as promised, but you can build it to make that perfect eye-opening effect.

What can I say about e.l.f Cosmetics? They are one of my favorite drugstore brands because you can typically find a dupe for a lot of higher end luxury cosmetics and brushes for next to nothing! The only caveat as with all drugstore brands and more affordable products is that you have to accept that the end result may not always be what you want.
The e.l.f eye widener pencil in White lists itself as a soft white pencil that goes on smooth and blends easily for a brightening and widening effect, which you can use on your lashline, waterline inner and outer corners, as well as a highlight on the browbone.
Number one, this product does NOT list itself as long wear or extended wear so for those looking for a product that will go a long way and last all day/night, you might want to try a different product. Also according to others who have used this product, it does not deliver high pigmentation or easy application. I found this to be true, as the color came out more streaky and less opaque. I also found it to be difficult to build the pigment as it quickly became goopy and ultimate dry and flaky. If you’re in a pinch I’d say skip this pencil and hold out for another affordable brand like NYX or Wet n Wild.

One of my favorite brands is Urban Decay. Their iconic setting spray is a must have for any makeup lover. Urban Decay also never fails to have some of the best products on the market. Here we have their 24/7 Glide-On eye pencil in “Yeyo”. I also love how they have so many colors in this pencil collection, and this product is labeled as being vegan, for those that prefer their products to be so.
This pencil is priced on the higher end of the spectrum, so let’s take a look at its features to see if it lives up to its price. This pencil is billed as being a creamy, forever lasting, award winning and waterproof 24/7 liner. Its velvety soft formula stays soft and creamy or blending (about 30 seconds), then dries down to a lasting finish that will NOT budge. The pencil is created with 50% moisturizing ingredients suspended in a waterproof formula with jojoba oil, vitamin E and cottonseed oil.
With high quality ingredients, and a tried and true formula, this pencil definitely hits it out of the park. This product glides on so smooth and is so highly pigmented that you’re definitely paying for not just the brand name, but for all of its claims that it definitely lives up to. Its long lasting effects make it a highly versatile product and will be sure to make your eyes pop. 10/10 recommend this eye pencil and all of its shade including “Yeyo”.
Liquid

We’re going to get a little crazy here and I’m going to go ahead and include this liquid eyeliner from the one and only Kat Von D herself. She has one of the most iconic makeup lines out there as I’m sure many of you might have her Shade & Light contour palette which I love.
I know that typically you’re not going to want to use a liquid liner for the waterline but I believe makeup can be as versatile as you believe it to be and that includes using liquid liner on the waterline. My favorite drag queen Farrah Moan even uses Jeffree Star’s white “Druglord” liquid lipstick on the waterline. I know it’s blasphemy to mention Jeffree and Kat’s name together, but moving on to the product! Kat Von D’s signature Ink liquid liner in shade “Neruda” delivers highly pigmented crisp bold lines in a highly saturated formula via the felt tip and provides a bold color payoff that is long-lasting, waterproof and will not budge all day.
The product is vegan a cruelty free which is a hallmark of Kat’s products. I love this not only for the waterline but also for the inner corners or the eye, or if you want to do a furthering widening effect and do the lower lashline in addition to the waterline with a darker liner or shadow underneath to create the illusion of even bigger eyes! The Ink liner is a definite must-have!

Last but not least, we are rounding out these reviews with one final drugstore brand Maybelline. Maybelline’s Eyestudio Lasting Drama waterproof gel pencil in “Cashmere White”. This pencil comes in 10 shades and is described as being a long-lasting liner for dramatic looks. The pencil boasts benefits of being a waterproof and smudge resistant gel eyeliner that glides on smooth for impactful definition.
Being that is says the product is smudge resistant and not smudge proof makes me question its long-lasting claims. It says it offers all day wear and is great for sensitive eyes. So here’s where we get to the nitty gritty, apparently the particular pencil suffers from a fatal design flaw in that it’s listed as being a pencil which you could sharpen, but this has left many users to discover that the product is plastic tipped and is not a retractable pencil product.
One user described that she found a way to sharpen the pencil by pulling off the bottom end cap will reveal a black plastic with a hole which she used a longer ended nail to push the pencil product up and through to sharpen. This seems like a lot of work that Maybelline needs to go back and fix this design. I prefer my product to be no fuss and straightforward. This pencil, although does have a great application with good pigment payoff and long lasting properties, definitely fails the most out of all drugstore liners I reviewed.

Another white pencil we have is the Sephora Collection contour matte waterproof gel eyeliner. That’s a lot of features packed into one product name. A relatively affordable price point. The pencil is described as being a long-wearing, smudge proof, gel eyeliner in intensely pigmented matte shades. It’s a creamy gel pencil that glides on for a modern matte finish with a waterproof formula that won’t smudge or fade.
Sephora’s products are never tested on animals and this product contains no parabens. There has been mixed reviews surrounding this product that disputes its creamy gel consistency and easy glide on application. A lot of people have reported the pencil to be dry, flaky and hard to apply, which makes me skeptical about using this product on the waterline. There’s nothing worse than that scraping feeling with pencils, especially if it’s going on the waterline. The high point of this product is its staying power.
The product is quick drying and once it’s set, it is not budging an inch. Also being that the product is waterproof you’re sure to feel confident that the product will stay on, that is if you can get the application right. A user reported that vaseline is the best product to use to take the pencil off, although this product might work for some, it appears a vast majority will say that despite its claims packed into the name of the product, it falls short.
