We are featuring this recipe from Six Senses Fiji, with a little bit of a twist, we added starfruit to the scrub. The hotel also has it's own Alchemy Bar so you can make your own custom beauty products. Since we are in "shelter at home" at the moment, here is a recipe from a gorgeous scrub that you can do at home!
Benefits and Bonuses of Using Body Scrubs
One of the best uses for body scrubs is for exfoliation. Exfoliating is so important for your skincare routine so you can reveal healthy new skin. Also, it can leave your skin looking brighter because scrubs are able to penetrate deeper into your skin than other topical creams. Plus, while you scrub you also massage, which can be calming and relaxing.
How Frequently Should You Exfoliate?
As much as we love scrubbing our skin, it's a good idea not to scrub every day. Generally, 2-3 times a week is a good rule of thumb, and less is more. If you over scrub, you can damage your skin and not allow your skin to repair itself. Also, if you suffer from any skin diseases or conditions, please consult a dermatologist or physician before using any DIY scrubs.
Here's what you'll need:
Ingredients
Directions
Cut a single sliced from a star fruit roughly half an inch wide. You should cut just enough so you can get more of the meaty and juicy pulp of the star fruit. I recommend cutting from the center since it yields less skin and more juice. You can also use a passion fruit and its seeds, but I prefer the lighter scent of star fruit.
Next, add in 2 tablespoons of brown sugar. You can actually add more if you want a thicker more coarse scrub, or a little less if you want it to be slightly more runny. I prefer a watery scrub over a coarse scrub because it feels more soothing and moisturizing.
Afterwards, you're going to add in your passionfruit juice. If you don't want too much scent, you can add a little less juice. I really like my scrubs watered down so I added a little extra.
Then, add in your grapeseed oil. Grapeseed oil is one of the best oils for your skin because it helps manage acne, moisturizes, and balances your skin. However, you can also use olive oil, though it might alter the scent of your scrub a bit.
Last but not least, you want to mix it up really well. I like using small mason jars because you can actually just attach the lid and shake the mixture for mixing. If you're using a bowl, you can either whisk it or us a spoon. Be sure to mix it thoroughly around 3 minutes.
And badabing badaboom! You have the perfect DIY Passionfruit Starfruit Tropical scrub! You can use it immediately or keep it in the refrigerator for up to a day. I'd recommend making small amounts each time so you have the freshest quality each use.
This scrub left my skin feeling so smooth and moisturized. Plus, it smelled just like a tropical getaway. it's the perfect scrub for quarantine, or just an excuse to indulge.
